Overview
Chorely is designed for family use under parental supervision. This policy explains how we protect children's privacy and safety, and what responsibilities parents and guardians have when using Chorely with minors.
Age Requirements
Children Under 13
- Cannot create accounts independently: Children under 13 years old cannot register for Chorely on their own
- Parental account required: Parents or legal guardians must create and manage accounts for children under 13
- COPPA Compliance: We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
Teens (13-17)
- May create accounts: Teens aged 13-17 may create their own accounts
- Parental supervision recommended: We strongly encourage parental oversight and involvement
- Must join family groups: Teen accounts should be part of a family group managed by a parent or guardian
Adults (18+)
- Full account access: Adults can create accounts, family groups, and manage all features independently
Parental Consent
What Parents Consent To
By creating a family group and inviting minors, parents/guardians consent to:
- Collection and processing of the minor's personal information as described in our Privacy Policy
- The minor's use of Chorely features (task management, photo uploads, rewards)
- Storage of the minor's uploaded content (photos, profile information)
- Communication with the minor through app notifications
How Consent is Given
Parental consent is given when:
- A parent/guardian creates a family group account
- A parent/guardian invites a minor to join their family group
- A parent/guardian creates an account on behalf of a minor
Withdrawing Consent
Parents may withdraw consent at any time by:
- Removing the minor from the family group
- Deleting the minor's account
- Contacting us at privacy@chorely.app
Parental Responsibilities
Account Management
Parents and guardians are responsible for:
- Creating and managing accounts for children under 13
- Supervising their children's use of Chorely
- Monitoring content uploaded by their children
- Ensuring login credentials are kept secure
- Reviewing their children's task history and activity
Content Supervision
Parents must:
- Monitor photos uploaded by their children as task evidence
- Ensure content is appropriate and follows our Acceptable Use Policy
- Remove inappropriate content uploaded by their children
- Teach children about appropriate online behavior and content sharing
Task Safety
Parents are responsible for:
- Assigning age-appropriate tasks that are safe for their children
- Supervising real-world task completion to ensure safety
- Ensuring tasks do not put children at risk of injury or harm
- Providing necessary safety equipment for tasks (e.g., gloves, supervision)
Privacy Education
Parents should:
- Explain privacy and why personal information should be protected
- Teach safe practices for uploading photos (no personal information visible)
- Discuss online safety and appropriate digital behavior
- Review our Privacy Policy with their children
What Information We Collect from Children
When a child uses Chorely as part of a family group, we collect:
Required Information
- Name: First name and optional last name
- Profile Picture: Optional avatar or photo
- Task Activity: Tasks assigned, completed, and evidence photos
- Points Balance: Points earned and redeemed
Optional Information
- Nickname: Display name within the family group
- Notifications: Device tokens for push notifications (if enabled)
What We Don't Collect
- No social security numbers or government IDs
- No financial information from children
- No location tracking beyond what's necessary for app functionality
- No behavioral advertising data
How We Use Children's Information
Children's information is used only to:
- Provide Chorely's core functionality (task management, rewards)
- Enable family group features
- Send notifications about tasks and group activity
- Improve the app experience
We do NOT:
- Sell children's information to third parties
- Use children's information for advertising
- Share children's photos publicly
- Allow contact from strangers
Children's Privacy Rights
Parents have the right to:
- Review their child's personal information
- Request deletion of their child's information
- Refuse further collection of their child's information
- Request data export of their child's information

Data Retention for Children
- Active accounts: Data is retained while the child is part of a family group
- Removed from group: Data is deleted within 30 days
- Account deletion: All data is permanently deleted within 30 days
- Legal requirements: Some data may be retained if required by law
Third-Party Services and Children
Chorely uses third-party services that may process children's information:
- Firebase (Google): Authentication, database, storage
- Analytics: Anonymous usage data (no personal identification)
These services are COPPA-compliant and have appropriate safeguards for children's data.
Safety Features for Children
Private Environment
- All content is visible only within the family group
- No public profiles or social features
- No contact with users outside the family
Parental Controls
- Parents can see all child activity
- Parents can remove content
- Parents can adjust notification settings
- Parents can delete accounts at any time
Content Moderation
- We reserve the right to remove inappropriate content
- Parents can report concerns to safety@chorely.app
- We respond to safety reports within 24 hours

Chorely is designed to teach children:

Changes to This Policy
We will notify parents of material changes to this policy through:
- Email to the account holder
- In-app notifications
- Updated "Last Updated" date
